BK&J have the ability to play an extremely diverse repertoire of songs complete with killer solos and great groove. DESCRIPTION:Bob Burger is well known on the Jersey Shore for his skill in composing hook-laden songs\, as well as for the energy and emotion of his live performances.  To date\, he has released five solo albums\, as well as an additional five albums for JEM Records as a founding member of The Weeklings\, along with bandmate and long-time song writing collaborator\, Glen Burtnik. Bob’s live shows feature his original music\, as well as a spectrum of classic rock material with selections by scores of premier artists.  The Weeklings shows include a variety of Beatles-inspired Burtnik/Burger compositions\, along with near-perfect renditions of Fab Four favorites and previously unreleased Lennon / McCartney / Harrison songs. Since 2015\, Bob has been a standing member of Max Weinberg’s Jukebox\, performing to sold out crowds at concert venues all over America and Europe. SUMMARY:Moroccan Sheepherders
DESCRIPTION:Whether we’re playing in the City or along the Shore\, we’ve found that everybody — from hipsters\, to bankers\, to parents\, to party people — gets into our loose\, improvisational groove. \nWhether they come to dance or just to listen\, we make our instruments work overtime\, taking classic covers and originals to another dimension\, and never letting up until the crowd gets pulled into the primal\, tribal vibe. \nWay back in 1996\, Steve was introduced to Scott through an arranged meeting by Steve’s dad who had just helped Scott through the process of obtaining a new mortgage for his home. The two hit it off immediately and Steve suggested they jam with his longtime friend and musical compadre\, Craig. Not long after\, sometime in 1998\, Steve invited his other childhood friend\, Kyle\, to jam with the band after learning he had been playing in percussion groups for quite some time. The rest is history. \nThe original music of the Moroccan Sheepherders is difficult to categorize. It is a thick\, heady mélange of genres ranging from tribal ambient trance to hard-core\, blue-eyed blues-rock. The overarching foundation of the band’s sound is dual percussion of Craig and Kyle who together draw on African\, Latin\, and traditional rock influences to create a hard-driving rhythmic landscape. It’s a landscape of desert sands\, forgotten savannas and thick\, dark jungles both real and imagined. The beats they craft come straight from the deep core and ancient past of our ancestors and given such origins are irresistible. The most jaded of us are moved into motion by these primal percussive forces. Steve\, lead guitarist\, creates a melodic structure\, which is influenced by many guitar greats past and present but forges a sound which is both familiar and distinct. The sound varies between thick oscillating\, ambient sheets of notes\, which wash over the listener like ocean waves\, to an alien\, underwater\, psychedelics\, solo voice\, which convinces us clearly that we’re not in Kansas anymore. No\, far from it. \nThe bass guitar of Scott bridges the percussion and melodic structure. At times acting as an attractive force keeping the music together\, and other times expanding the mix with furious improvisation\, he acts as the connective tissue of this power quartet’s sound. Ever present and unconventional\, the bass emerges in shining moments as hard-core funk\, grungy blues walks\, and angular jazz riffs. Some songs have him joining Craig and Kyle on Djembe and other hand percussion\, while Steve melodically wanders over the resultant bed of rhythmic tribal trance. This is truly one of the more distinctive aspects of the Herders’ sonic landscape. \nThe band’s primary musical motif is the extended\, ever-morphing instrumental jam. Sheepherder songs are constructed with entry and exit ramps that allow for the ensemble to leave the more frequently travelled musical paths and explore long stretches of musical back roads\, vistas\, and sometimes dark\, foreboding places. Lyrics that cover the same breadth of expression are often included in the mix. Craig’s vocalizations also range from actual “singing” to more spoken\, Ken Nordine “word-jazz” sessions. In addition to these often soaring musical forays\, the Sheepherders have created studio distillations of many of their lengthy explorations. These “MAD JAM”s (machine-assisted distillation of joyous aural moments) are not watered down but actually more concentrated forms of their live-in-the-studio creations. With this unique process\, the Herders believe they have struck an ideal balance between the spontaneous and composed. The resulting pieces are true archetypes of their style\, which brings us to the most challenging question of how to categorize the music of the Moroccan Sheepherders. I think many will undoubtedly place them in the same box as The Grateful Dead or more appropriately with more modern bands like Phish or The String Cheese Incident. While MSH does share some qualities with these bands\, they also are drawing from a much deeper well\, one that includes rich draughts of pure waters of such groups as The Mothers\, King Crimson\, The Allman Bros and Led Zeppelin. \nIn the final analysis the Sheepherders defy simply categorization. I think philosophically the bands want it that way. Much of what they are doing is about pure joy and not packaging. They have consciously been improvising not only their songs\, but their style as well. Just like improvisation seeks to break the bonds of dull repetition MSH seeks to avoid suffocating comparisons which would otherwise constrain their creativity. SUMMARY:Tim McLoone and the Shirleys
DESCRIPTION:Tim McLoone and The Atlantic Coast Band began making music with The Shirleys in 1999\, although their affiliation dates back to 1993 through the acclaimed charitable group\, Holiday Express. Recognizing a unique musical opportunity\, Tim approached Delores Holmes\, Layonne Holmes\, Amy Broza\, and Maureen McCrink about starting a band based on their eclectic and original musical tastes. The result has been a dynamic blend of rhythm and blues\, classic rock\, country\, and Broadway\, with a healthy does of “girl group” attitude. \nTim McLoone’s entertainment career has spanned several genres\, including a three-year stint as musical director of the Rockefeller Center tree lighting on NBC-TV as well as his “On the Run” interviews during the Emmy Award-winning New York City Marathon TV coverage. The 2003 highlight with Tim’s running the final 16 miles with P. Diddy! \nDelores and Layonne Holmes\, a mother-daughter due\, bring a beautiful harmonic blend and count their backing vocals to Bruce Springsteen’s “City of Ruins” during the national telethon following 9/11 as a career highlight. The vocal interaction with Amy and Maureen give The Shirleys their unmistakable sound. The 10-piece ensemble also includes the superior musicianship of Mark Murphy on bass\, Bob Boyd on drums\, Roger Taylor on guitar\, Steph Munter on sax\, and Mike Gribbroek on trumpet. \nAs to the reason for the band’s success? DESCRIPTION:The Global Mala is officially happening on the boardwalk in Pier Village – between McLoone’s and Avenue – on Saturday\, September 16th (with a rain date of the 17th). All attendees will receive a tote bag as a thank you for attending the event + donating to our charity for 2023: the JBJ Soul Kitchen! \nJBJ Soul Kitchen is a non-profit Community Restaurant\, run by the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation\, that serves paying and in-need customers. The Soul Kitchen is a place where individuals or families can come to eat a delicious farm-to-table meal in a warm\, welcoming setting and meet their neighbors. To date\, both of the JBJ restaurant locations have served up over 140\,000 meals since opening\, with 53% earned by volunteering and 47% paid with donations. \nNow for the yoga… \nSun Salutations are a sequence of yoga poses strung together in a consistent movement\, typically found in Vinyasa-style yoga. In Sanskrit\, Sun Salutations are referred to as “Surya Namaskar” and were traditionally practiced to usher in the new day\, hence the name. \nIn Sanskrit\, “Vinyasa” can be translated to mean linking breath with motion in a continuous flow. Thus\, Sun Salutations are physically challenging and are an excellent cardiovascular workout. \nWhat Is the Significance of 108? \nThe number 108 is sacred and significant in many ways\, appearing in many disciplines from astronomy to yoga: \nThe number 108 appears in ancient\, sacred texts. For example\, there are 108 Upanishads and 108 Tantras \nIn numerology\, 108 equals 9\, which symbolizes universal love\, eternity and awakening \nIn Ayurveda\, there are 108 sacred points on the body \nIn astronomy\, the distance between the Sun and Earth is roughly 108 times the Sun’s diameter \nMala bead necklaces have 108 beads\, which are used to count during meditation \nWhen Do People Practice 108 Sun Salutations? \nSun Salutations can be practiced any time and with any frequency. Traditionally\, practicing 108 Sun Salutations is reserved for the change of the seasons + as a way to honor and celebrate the International Day of Peace. \nWhy Do People Practice 108 Sun Salutations? \nIt is believed that the fire (internal heat) that you build during this practice is cleansing\, detoxifying\, and gets you more in touch with yourself. \nMove Energy \nSun Salutations heat the body and activate Prana\, or upward energy. You’ve probably heard in yoga class that the active parts of class (like a Vinyasa flow) help create and move energy and stuck emotions. The slower parts of class (like hip openers and reclined poses) help release energy and emotions that no longer serve you. \nClear Your Mind \nPracticing 108 sun salutations requires a strong will and a single-pointed focus on moving with the breath (and counting!). Once you get into a rhythm with your sun salutation flow\, your mental chatter will decrease as your awareness turns inward. This is why it is often called a moving meditation. \nSurrender \nDuring 108 Sun Salutations\, you will at some point think\, “Why did I sign up for this?” If you keep going\, you will find a state of ease\, and even a sense of flow. You will surrender to the process\, acknowledge what arises emotionally\, and then let it go. When you finish\, you will feel lighter and find meaning in this ancient ritual. \nDo I have to do all the Sun Salutes if I sign up for the Mala? \nNo way! DESCRIPTION:The Get Down Committee came to GET DOWN!! This cover band specializes in playing party music that gets the people moving. This is not your typical classic rock cover band. The GDC focuses on Funk\, Soul\, Motown\, Dance and Top 40 music. Whatever it is\, it’s gotta make the people dance! \nThe GDC is new to Gigmasters\, but has been working the New Jersey club and private event scene for a few years now. In addition to weddings\, backyard parties\, festivals\, and corporate events\, the GDC has headlined at numerous high profile bars all over NJ. Just to name a few: Donovan’s Reef\, Bar Anticipation\, Porta Asbury Park\, Salty Whale\, River Rock\, Blu Grotto\, Wharfside Patio Bar\, Baker’s Water Street\, River Rock\, Reef & Barrel\, Joe’s Surf Shack\, Shipwreck Grill\, and Saly G’s! \nThursdays by the Sea Concert Series is presented by the City of Long Branch. SUMMARY:BOB BURGER
DESCRIPTION:Bob Burger is well known on the Jersey Shore for his skill in composing hook-laden songs\, as well as for the energy and emotion of his live performances.  To date\, he has released five solo albums\, as well as an additional five albums for JEM Records as a founding member of The Weeklings\, along with bandmate and long-time song writing collaborator\, Glen Burtnik. Bob’s live shows feature his original music\, as well as a spectrum of classic rock material with selections by scores of premier artists.  The Weeklings shows include a variety of Beatles-inspired Burtnik/Burger compositions\, along with near-perfect renditions of Fab Four favorites and previously unreleased Lennon / McCartney / Harrison songs. Since 2015\, Bob has been a standing member of Max Weinberg’s Jukebox\, performing to sold out crowds at concert venues all over America and Europe. He has also brought together top Jersey Shore musicians such as Jimmy Leahey\, Jerry Gaskill (of King’s X)\, Lisa Sherman\, John Merjave\, Joe Bellia\, Arne Wendt\, PK Lavengood\, Ralph Notaro\, Jon Rogers and Mitch Burger to join him in shows paying tribute to some of the artists who have influenced his music\, including Fleetwood Mac\, Elvis Costello and Tom Petty. \nBob is a seasoned songwriter having written songs for national recording artists Styx\, Donnie Iris\, Glen Burtnik\, Bobby Bandiera\, Kasim Sulton and others.  He earned a Gold Record award along with Glen Burtnik for co-writing the title cut of the Styx Edge of the Century album\, and other Burtnik/Burger songs are featured on the Styx Greatest Hits – Part 2 and Cyclorama collections. In performance\, Bob has played with Sir Paul McCartney\, Bruce Springsteen\, Jon Bon Jovi\, Billy Joel\, Jimmy Buffett\, Roger Waters\, Max Weinberg\, Southside Johnny and many more. \nBeyond his resume as a singer/musician among the rock ‘n’ roll elite\, Bob’s other accomplishments extend to careers as a copyright and technology attorney and computer software consultant. At college age with an interest in recording and electronic music\, Bob earned a degree in electrical engineering\, graduating as valedictorian of the engineering class at Penn State University. He later continued his studies in the field of intellectual property law at Rutgers Law School. After earning a J.D. degree with honors\, Bob joined the premier New Jersey firm\, McCarter & English\, LLP\, where he continues to practice technology and entertainment law as Special Counsel. \nThursdays by the Sea Concert Series is presented by the City of Long Branch.
